One of the latest claims by leftists is that the wildfires ravaging the West Coast are all the result of “climate change” and “global warming,” which of course means they can only be stopped through increased taxes and further restrictions on human activity. But according to a 2019 book by Marc Morano, there are actually fewer wildfires occurring in the modern age than occurred more than a century ago.
Though Morano’s book, entitled The Politically Incorrect Guide to Climate Change, was published prior to the wildfires now occurring in 2020, his premise is that the so-called “wildfire problem” existed long before people pumped fossil fuels into their vehicles and drank through plastic straws.
“There is increasing evidence that there is overall less fire in the landscape today than there has been centuries ago, although the magnitude of this reduction still needs to be examined in more detail,” Morano writes.
“The ‘wildfire problem’ is essentially more a social than a natural one,” he adds, noting that researchers from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid found that ‘climate change’ is actually not to blame for increased forest fires in the Mediterranean basin, as one example.
As for wildfires in the United States, Morano claims that much of the problem lies with improper forest management, as dead overgrowth and diseased trees and other foliage are allowed to proliferate and build up over time, creating perfect kindling for the massive infernos we are now seeing up and down the West Coast.

According to David B. South, a forestry professor at Auburn University, data as of 2014 suggests that extremely large mega-fires “were four times more common before 1940.” Thus, South says that “we cannot reasonably say that anthropogenic global warming causes extremely large wildfires.”
“To attribute this human-caused increase in fire risk to carbon dioxide emissions is simply unscientific,” he is further quoted as saying.
There is also the inconvenient reality of arsonists, many of them left-wing, starting these wildfires on purpose, or at least some of them.
As we have been reporting, many arrests are being made all throughout Oregon and Washington of individuals who were caught lighting fires next to the road or throwing homemade Molotov cocktails into dry fields.
While this does not explain all of the wildfires now blazing, especially those in very remote areas not even accessible by road, it is a factor that is being largely ignored by the mainstream media, which refuses to acknowledge that Black Lives Matter (BLM) and Antifa “protesters” are contributing to the wildfire problem.
This is of course because the left-wing media wants the world to believe that every wildfire is the result of cows flatulating and soccer moms driving SUVs. Meanwhile, the right is also guilty of spreading the narrative that all of these fires are being caused by arsonists, when the reality is that some of them are strangely popping up along fault lines and near dormant super-volcanoes.
“There is less fire in the global landscape today than centuries ago,” reads a 2016 study published by the Royal Society about wildfires. This same study adds that the amount of “global area burned” has seen a “slight decline over past decades,” suggesting that wildfires were more a problem in the past than they are today.
As for the western U.S. specifically, the data apparently shows “little change overall,” except in the case of the amount of area burned at “high severity,” which has supposedly “declined” overall “compared to pre-European settlement.”
“Direct fatalities from fire and economic losses also show no clear trends over the past three decades,” this same paper concluded.
